Our History

Established in 1991 by Lisa Scholz and Yommi Pawelke at the corner of Bealey Avenue and Victoria Street the ground breaking dining concept quickly attracted devoted locals.

In 2012 Saggio di vino had to relocate after the Canterbury earthquakes and is now operating from a new building next door to the original site. While the restaurant has adopted a contemporary interior, the philosophy of the dining concept has remained.

In 2016 Lisa Scholz and Yommi Pawelke reluctantly sold their business with their previous chef David Napier taking the reins as Chef Patron.

David's accolades include time at the two Michelin starred Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley Hotel and Heston Blumenthal's Dinner in London.
With previous experience in Winery Restaurants David realises the important relationship between food and wine pairing.

Today the neighbourhood restaurant is considered an institution and a quintessential New Zealand dining experience.
